How to Measure Ring Size at Home

You don’t need a jeweler’s tools to figure out your ring size. With a few simple materials, you can measure your finger and get a close estimate. Here’s how:

1. Use the String or Paper Method

• Cut a thin strip of paper or string (about 6 inches long).
• Wrap it around the base of the finger you want to size.
• Mark the point where the ends meet with a pen.
• Measure the length in millimeters using a ruler.
• Use our Ring Size Chart to match the measurement to the correct size.

2. Measure a Ring You Already Own

• Choose a ring that fits the finger you’re sizing.
• Measure the inside diameter in millimeters.
• Use our conversion chart to find the matching ring size.

Ring Sizing Tips

• Measure at the end of the day. Your fingers swell slightly throughout the day, so evening is best.
• Don’t measure when cold. Cold fingers can shrink, leading to underestimation.
• Check the knuckle. If your knuckle is much larger than the base of your finger, size up slightly.
• Use a ring sizer. Stop by our Jackson Hole store for a complimentary sizing.

Keep in mind that rings will fit differently depending on the width and style of the band. Try to use a sizer similar to the ring you are  sizing for (or we can always do an adjustment).

How to Find Your Ring Size Without Them Knowing

• Ask their friend or family member (they might know already!).
• Borrow a ring they wear on the correct finger and measure its diameter.
• Trace the inner circle of their ring on a piece of paper when they’re not looking.
